Jean Hearn, EdD
Dr. Jean Hearn is an assistant professor of education in the College of Arts and Sciences at Creighton University. The classes she teaches include Assessment, Observation, Screening and Evaluation in ECE, Becoming an ECE Professional, Foundations and Best Practices in ECE, Integration of Art, Music and PE, Methods of Teaching Mathematics, Methods of Teaching Science and Significant Concepts for Early Childhood Education.
Dr. Hearn’s teaching philosophy is inspired by two quotes:
“I'm more interested in arousing enthusiasm in kids than in teaching the facts. The facts may change, but that enthusiasm for exploring the world will remain with them the rest of their lives.”

Her ongoing research interests include teaching methods that facilitate Catholic school identity in early
childhood education, effective early childhood education methods and assessment in dual language settings, using service learning to effectively teach elementary education and next Generation Science Standards project-based science methods courses.
Dr. Hearn received her BS in elementary education from the University of Georgia. She received her Early Childhood Education Certification and her Master of Science in Elementary Education from the University of Nebraska Omaha and her Doctor of Interdisciplinary Educational Leadership from Creighton University.
In addition to academia, Dr. Hearn loves to spend time with her family and dogs, cook, read a good book, swim, do an interesting puzzle and brew beer!
