Description / Biography

Dr. Lori Rubarth is a professor at the College of Nursing at Creighton University. She teaches many of the neonatal graduate courses as well as Evaluative Methods and the neonatal portion of Advanced Pathophysiology Across the Lifespan.

A neonatal nurse practitioner, Dr. Rubarth has research interests in neonatal care, especially temperature regulation and parental involvement in a baby’s care in the neonatal intensive care unit. She also has special interest in the five fundamental patterns of knowing in nursing which include empirical, ethical, personal knowledge, aesthetics and social political as well as decreasing the stress in antenatal high-risk pregnancies.

Dr. Rubarth completed her PhD at the University of Arizona in Tucson, Arizona. She has had numerous articles published in nursing journals and has written several instructional book chapters about prenatal and neonatal care. More recent book chapters include Comprehensive Neonatal Care: An Interdisciplinary Approach, Identifying Maternal Risk Factors & Influence on Fetal Risk, Neonatal Advanced Practice Nursing: A Case-Based Learning Approach, Nurse-Neonatal Intensive Care and NP-Neonatal.

Dr. Rubarth is well respected in her field. In 2018, Dr. she was awarded the Daisy Faculty Award from Creighton University College of Nursing and the American Association of Colleges of Nursing. She also received the Distinguished Service in Neonatal Nursing Award by the National Association of Neonatal Nurses in 2014 and the Excellence in Nursing Top 25 Award from the March of Dimes in 2010.

As a self learner, Dr. Rubarth expects students to be involved in their own education and to be self-motivated to learn and grow.

When she is not teaching nursing, she enjoys reading, bicycling, softball, quilting and spending time with family.
