HEALTH BEHAVIOR MODIFICATION COURSE

This course provides students with a broad perspective on the many factors that determine health, with emphasis on healthy lifestyle behaviors and health behavior change. Students will construct, implement and modify healthy lifestyle programs for case patients/clients with and without chronic disease and across the lifespan. Special emphasis will be placed on understanding the pathophysiology and current treatment strategies of common chronic diseases. Students also learn how to evaluate and read research papers that are based on lifestyle medicine practices and procedures.

HEALTH BEHAVIOR MODIFICATION COURSE OBJECTIVES

By the end of this class, students will be able to:

  • Identify basic theories, concepts and models from a range of social and behavioral disciplines that are used in health behavior change research and practice.
  • Describe steps and procedures for the planning, implementation and evaluation of health behavior change programs and wellness initiatives.
  • Analyze the causes of social, behavioral, and psychosocial factors that affect the health of individuals and populations.
  • Combine health behavior change theories and health coaching practices to support client health goals.

COURSE CREDIT AND CE

This CE course is approved by NBHWC for 45 continuing education units.

This is one of the courses within the Graduate Certificate in Lifestyle Medicine and the Master of Science in Integrative Health and Wellness. Individuals who complete this course and then enroll in the certificate or degree program may also be eligible for up to three hours of awarded credit toward their degree or certificate. In order to apply credits for this course to a degree or certificate program, you will be required to pay the difference in cost between the CE course and tuition.

MEET YOUR HEALTH BEHAVIOR CHANGE COURSE INSTRUCTOR

This course is led by Vicki Bautista, EdD, NBC-HWC, assistant professor in the Department of Interdisciplinary Studies at Creighton University. Throughout her career, she has had the opportunity to facilitate wellness programming at both the individual and community level in a variety of settings ranging from high schools to worksites to prisons. Through these experiences, she has come to believe self-care is the foundation to maintaining well-being.

REFUND POLICY

Continuing education and professional development courses may be cancelled by the attendee in writing up to 7 days before the course begins for a full refund, less a $25 processing fee. No refund will be given 7 days prior to the course. Some courses are not eligible for a refund; these exceptions are noted in specific course descriptions. In the event of a weather related closure, the course will be rescheduled.

In this case, registrants will receive a full refund.
