Ignatian Formation and Ministry Department Leads Discussion During EdD Residency

The Rev. Larry Gillick, SJ, and the Rev. Greg Carlson, SJ, are popular speakers at Creighton. And, each spring and fall semester, they facilitate a session for the EdD in Interdisciplinary Leadership program.

The program hosts a residency as part of the doctoral program’s requirement for new student cohorts. For many years, the doctoral program has had a special partnership with Fr. Carlson and Fr. Gillick, within the Department of Ignatian Formation and Ministry for Faculty and Staff. Vital to the program, they share their knowledge to connect students, faculty, and staff, by providing firsthand insight of the Jesuit mission and values.

Hundreds of students who have attended residency with a campus visit or virtually spend time together during the first day to discuss the Jesuit, Catholic character of Creighton’s mission of higher education thus creating a strong foundation for the students in the doctoral program. Students mention this experience as a highlight when beginning their educational journey at Creighton.

“I especially enjoyed how Fr. Gillick and Fr. Carlson gave us their undivided attention and connected with us even though nearly all of us had no foundation in Creighton until now,” a student said.

Jennifer Moss Breen Kuzelka, PhD, shared, “It is amazing to witness students with no previous experience in Ignatian formation engage with Frs. Gillick and Carlson. Our EdD students work in a vast array of fields and have a wide range of spiritual formation. Yet, their time with two of our engaging Jesuits lands easily on them, and for many, brings a new curiosity about their spiritual path into their lives.”
