Maggie Knight, DBA, CPA, CGMA
Dr. Maggie Knight is an assistant professor of accounting in the Heider College of Business at Creighton University and director of the Master of Accounting Program. She teaches External Financial Reporting Issues, Intermediate Accounting ll and Contemporary Professional Practice Issues in Accounting, Auditing and Taxation.
Dr. Knight says, I am driven to teach because I am passionate about helping young people find their path in life. Being a part of their life and development during a time of critical decision-making and soul searching is such a privilege. Our time with students may be limited to a few years, but this quote speaks to me regarding my purpose, ‘If there's one thing I've learned in my life, it's to not be afraid of the responsibility that comes with caring for other people’. Our time with students may be transient, but we hope that the impact we have on them endures.”
She earned her doctorate at Creighton University in 2018, and has an interest in behavioral accounting research, particularly burnout and alternative work arrangements in public accounting as well as the mission and pedagogy in Jesuit business schools.
After graduating from Creighton University in 2001 with a bachelor of science in business administration, Dr. Knight went on to pursue her passion for accounting and health care.
She spent seven years in public accounting with KPMG, where she served healthcare clients throughout the Midwest. She then joined CHI Health in 2008 as the system controller, where she oversaw accounting, financial reporting, budgeting, financial analysis, capital planning, benchmarking, and decision support/cost accounting for the health system. Dr. Knight later served as the chief financial officer for the primary and specialty care networks of physicians in CHI Health.
When Dr. Knight is away from school, she loves spending time with her husband and three boys, listening to music, and spending time outdoors boating and hiking.
