A Conversation with Jenny Jacobsen, Senior Risk Advisor for HUB Risk Services Division in Omaha

Risk management has always been central to organizational success, but the recent pandemic has undoubtably highlighted deficiencies in some organizational risk structures. While some organizations were well prepared for the crisis, many others have been forced to acknowledge their shortcomings and have felt the pressure to react.  Professor Ed Horwitz, PhD, invited Jenny Jacobsen, Senior Risk Advisor for HUB International, to join him for a candid conversation on the importance of having risk management plans throughout an organization and how individuals might enhance their careers in this growing industry.  The interview is the second in a series called “Profiles in Risk”, where Dr. Horwitz aims to help us understand the complex and vital role of risk managers.

Jenny Jacobsen is a Senior Risk Advisor for HUB’s Risk Services Division based in Omaha.  As a Licensed Property & Casualty Insurance Producer, Jenny’s primary role is educating and assisting clients within all industries on identifying their professional and cyber liability risk exposures and advising them on risk financing and control needs.

Jenny brings a wealth of knowledge to the insurance industry in strategic and operational risk management. Prior to joining HUB, Jenny was a Licensed Nursing Home Administrator at a national senior care organization and a family physician advocate for one of the largest medical organizations in the United States.  Jenny also has experience on the health insurance carrier side of the industry.

Jenny received her BS from the University of Nebraska, Kearney and her JD from Creighton University School of Law.  She is a member of the Nebraska Bar Association and regularly provides continuing education to professionals in the legal, accounting and healthcare sectors.

When asked about what her life has been like as a risk advisor during the pandemic, Jacobsen explains that she has really stepped in and assisted clients as they shifted into a “crisis mode”.  She illustrates that some clients had plans in place for business continuity and disaster planning, but many others did not.  As organizations look to new business and growth opportunities as a result of the pandemic, Jacobsen and her team are “filling in the gaps” for them in the area of risk advising by providing “risk playbooks” to address the different topics affecting their specific needs.  Jacobsen also provides insight on pursuing a career in risk management.

Learn more about what it means to provide a “risk playbook” and how Jacobsen’s team steps in wherever a client needs help filling a gap within their organization by listening to the full interview between Dr. Horwitz and Ms. Jacobsen.
