ETHICAL STANDARDS FOR VICTIM ADVOCATES

Join us as we explore ethics in crime victim services. This online training session takes a close look at common ethical conflicts you may encounter in victim services and how to apply ethical standards and decision-making to resolve them. During the three-hour session, participants will:

• Increase self-awareness and understanding of how attitudes and beliefs influence responses to victims of crime
• Become familiar with and apply the Standards for Victim Assistance Programs and Providers developed by the National Victim Assistance Standards Consortium
• Learn to recognize when a person is acting in an ethically questionable way
• Explore how to use a decision-making process when faced with an ethical dilemma

The training session will be held online via Zoom.

AVAILABLE SCHOLARSHIPS

Scholarships are available to apply for via the Nebraska Crime Victim—Training and Technical Assistance Program (NCV-TTAP). These funds are available to victim service providers and allied professionals (i.e. law enforcement, attorneys/judges, mental health professionals). If you’re interested in the scholarship, note that you are responsible for:

• Paying the registration fee directly to Creighton (your organization may also pay)
• Applying for the NCV-TTAP scholarship and submitting it at least 10 days prior to the event registration deadline
• Attending the training and providing proof of attendance and payment
• Submitting all required documentation to NCV-TTAP for reimbursement within 14 days of completing the training

MEET THE COURSE INSTRUCTOR

Lacey Craven joined Creighton in 2017 as the director of Nebraska Victim Assistance Academy (NEVAA). Her unique role on campus provides comprehensive, academically based training opportunities for victim advocates and allied professionals in Nebraska. Lacey oversees the development of victim-centered curriculum for NEVAA’s 40-hour summer training academy for victim service providers. She also provides additional community trainings.

With over 10 years of experience working in academic settings, Lacey is committed to educating students, colleagues and the community through establishing strong connections. She firmly believes that individualism, vulnerability and human sensitivity can create change,

Craven holds a bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice and a master’s degree in Negotiation and Conflict Resolution.

REFUND POLICY

Continuing education and professional development courses may be cancelled by the attendee in writing up to 7 days before the course begins for a full refund, less a $25 processing fee. No refund will be given 7 days prior to the course. Some courses are not eligible for a refund; these exceptions are noted in specific course descriptions. In the event of a weather-related closure, the course will be rescheduled.

Student interactions and viewpoints are a vital part of our rich learning environment. For this reason, Creighton reserves the right to cancel courses in the case of low registration numbers. In this case, registrants will receive a full refund. If a course is cancelled by the University for other non-weather-related issues, the student will be notified and a full refund will be processed.
