Design Thinking Workshop for Teachers

Design thinking is a human-centered design process that fosters empathy, imagination, critical thinking and problem solving. The Introduction to Design Thinking for Educators course is a one-day interactive workshop for teachers at every grade level. This one-day workshop will dive into the core concepts of design thinking. It will also provide hands-on and interactive activities that you can bring into your classroom. You’ll also go back to your school with resources to keep exploring what is possible when you integrate design thinking into your existing curriculum. If you’re new to design thinking or have thought about testing the waters, this workshop is for you.

We’ve designed this workshop to be a fun and creative space where you can explore, collaborate and learn. The result is an experience that we hope will help you bring design thinking to your school and into the classroom.

Meet the Instructors

This workshop is led by Tobias Nownes and Kathy Craig at Creighton University.

Nownes is assistant director of academic initiatives in the Creighton EDGE. He holds a master’s in literature from Creighton and has worked across different industries as instructor, programmer, video editor and instructional designer. Nownes has a passion for learning and sharing new ideas, making technology accessible and embracing and encouraging creative ideas.

Craig holds a Master of Science in biology and has completed additional PhD graduate work. She’s also familiar with HTML and 3D graphic design. She’s passionate about design thinking because of the method’s inclusivity and focus on empathy. Craig also loves the creativity that inevitably occurs as students explore the process. Outside of work, she enjoys reading, exploring new technologies, marine and field biology, and outdoor activities, including biking, swimming and kayaking.
