Addressing Teacher Burnout
Teaching is a demanding profession. Now, more than ever, teachers are being asked to prepare their students for higher achievement, while taking on greater workloads with fewer resources. This can take a toll on personal well-being, and the stress can lead to teacher burnout. Burnout is an acute challenge in the first years of teaching, and even veteran teachers facing new, higher demands are at risk.
The Resilient Educator: Preventing Teacher Burnout will look at the unique requirements of teaching at the primary and secondary levels and focus on bringing balance to both work life and home life.
Learn How to Bring Balance and Build Resilience
This course offers important and accessible resilience training for teachers. It will discuss and provide an opportunity to practice self-care activities that teachers can personally use to enhance resiliency and well-being, for more effectiveness in the classroom and to improve their personal quality of life. Course participants will learn how to leverage their personal and community strengths to withstand and recover quickly from difficult situations.
Throughout the course, participants will be provided reading materials and video lectures. Class discussions are held online and are asynchronous (no designated, required meeting times).
Course Details
The course will be four weeks long with each week beginning on Monday and ending on Sunday evening (with the exception of Week 4 which will end on Friday). Each week will introduce a new theme that will build upon the previous week. Students can expect a recorded video from the instructor each week, as well as a reading assignment, a short reflection paper due on Sunday evening, and an asynchronous discussion amongst the group. The course is designed to be intellectually stimulating, reflective and practical. By the end of the course, students can expect to have developed strategies that can assist with work/life balance and a perspective that can improve overall resiliency in and out of the classroom.
