The MSN program is designed to prepare nurses who:

• Analyze theoretical concepts and knowledge from nursing and other disciplines relevant to advanced nursing practice in the provision and improvement of health care.
• Assume leadership in designing, managing and implementing quality, cost-effective, and innovative services to clients in a variety of health care settings.
• Incorporate knowledge of population-based care and cultural influences in ensuring appropriate and sensitive health care.
• Influence health policy formulation and implementation to address socioeconomic and health care issues.
• Demonstrate proficiency in analyzing and utilizing research from nursing and other relevant disciplines to improve practice.
• Engage in a systematic process of moral reasoning and values-based dialogue to resolve/address ethical dilemmas/situations.
• Demonstrate competency in an advanced nursing role

Specializations

Through the MSN program, you’ll gain the advanced knowledge and skills you’ll need to be a leader in today’s challenging health care environment.

To help you achieve your goals, our MSN program offers these specializations:

• Nursing Administration and Leadership — Work as an innovative and collaborative leader in health care organizations, improving the quality of health care. View the course requirements of this specialization.
• Nursing Education — Work as an innovative educator in academic or clinical settings using foundational knowledge in teaching and learning principles, assessment, and curricular design. View the course requirements of this specialization. 

Students who successfully complete Creighton’s Master of Science in Nursing with a specialization in Nursing Education are eligible to apply 15 credit hours of their graduate coursework upon admission to Creighton’s Doctor of Education in Interdisciplinary Leadership (EdD) program. This terminal degree program offers a values-based curriculum focused on developing ethical leaders who can make a positive impact on the world around them. State Regulatory Requirements

Due to regulatory requirements in the states listed below, we are unable to accept or enroll students in the MSN program who intend to reside in any of these states while pursuing a MSN: Delaware, Louisiana, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New York, Tennessee and Oregon.

Specific Application Requirements

To be considered for admission to the Master of Science in Nursing program, applicants must:

• Possess a BSN from an ACEN- or CCNE-accredited college or university
• Active unencumbered RN license with NE eligibility
• GPA 3.0 or higher
• Successful completion of undergraduate statistics course and physical assessment course (or equivalent) with C (2.0) or higher
• Official transcripts from all educational institutions attended
• Include a resume or curriculum vitae
• Submit three letters of recommendations; one from a supervisor/employer, who can speak to your performance in an academic or professional setting
• Submit a personal statement speaking to your long- and short-term goals
• Complete an application and submit a $50 application fee

A personal interview may be requested in addition to the above requirements. The interview may be conducted in-person or virtually.

Due to the specific features and requirements of this program, international students cannot be admitted. Unique situations may be discussed with your enrollment specialist.

INTERNATIONAL TRANSCRIPTS

Any course work taken at an accredited institution outside of the United States must be evaluated course-by-course by a NACES approved credentialing agency. A list of approved agencies can be found here. Official evaluations must be sent directly from the agency to Creighton University.
