Social emotional learning in schools

Social emotional learning is getting a lot of attention due to the emphasis in the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA), but what is social emotional learning (SEL) and how can schools make sure this type of learning is being addressed? Attend this course and get answers to these questions and more. Participants will learn techniques and strategies for promoting a healthy and vibrant culture for all students.

This online course is largely asynchronous with one synchronous discussion during the four weeks (time and date to be determined). For the remainder of the course, participants won’t meet at certain times and dates, making the class convenient and flexible. Each week, you’ll complete a module with assigned reading, a video lecture and then an assignment with a deadline. In the end, educators will come away with a deeper understanding of how to address the SEL needs of the diverse populations they serve.

Weekly topics include:

  • Five categories for SEL integration
  • Teaching SEL concepts to students
  • Measuring SEL
  • Apply SEL concepts in a school setting

A note on course credit

Creighton University will issue a 1098-T by January 31 for all learners enrolled in courses for credit. As part of that process, you may be asked to provide your Social Security number.
